Monogamy Monogamia ran in Santiago, Chile for over a year. De la Parra crafted a second version with two female characters which he considered even more effective and thought-provoking than the original he had written with male characters. The basic premise of both versions is that ``one of the `fiftyish' brothers (sisters) has invited the other to a private club to confess that he/she has fallen in love with a 22 year old and to ask for advice. Little by little we not only see the distinct character traits of these two people, but we also become witnesses to an analysis of fears, obsessions, and frustrations of the characters which transcends the generations.'' The play is very intense, with a lot of irony and humor where memories and affections play very important roles. De la Parra is a practicing psychiatrist and his insights are always very interesting and incisive.
