The Sleepless Land, the Mother Whore or the Mother Country: Greek Tragedy Without Greeks: (La Tierra Insomne, La Puta Madre o La Madre Patria)
Country :Chile
translated by Prof. Charles Philip Thomas
La Tierra Insomne, La Puta Madre o La Madre Patria (tragedia griega sin griegos) (The Sleepless Land, The Mother Whore or The Mother Country: Greek Tragedy without Greeks). The possibility for change is the author's purpose in writing this play. On one hand it includes the portrayal of a frustrated family's relationship, and on the other, ancient myths are called upon to show the trends which are ``destroying the continent and all who live there; replete with explicit violence, exile, abandonment, torture.'' The Greek tragedy characters of Orestes and Cassandra are key elements. Cassandra's visions of the future are ignored, no one listens to her. People pass by seemingly blind and deaf to the news of their destiny, although they struggle and have the feeling of being free.
